Advisory Committee

Colleen Kavanagh, President and Executive Director of Campaign for Better Nutrition

For 17 years, Colleen has championed efforts to improve the health and learning ability of children through improving the nutrition they receive in public programs and at home. Her career in child nutrition public policy began in Washington, DC, as legislative assistant to the Honorable George Miller, Congressman from the 7th district in California, and as director of government affairs for the American School Food Service Association. Her policy work continued on the state and local level as assistant director and acting executive director of California Food Policy Advocates. In 2003, Colleen was appointed by the San Francisco Board of Education to serve on the San Francisco School Board’s Student Nutrition and Physical Fitness Committee, where she focuses on long-range planning and legislative strategy. To facilitate this and other work, in 2007 Colleen founded and the Campaign for Better Nutrition, a nonprofit corporation that helps improve the nutrition children receive in public programs and at home, so they can be healthier, learn more, and better achieve their dreams. Colleen is also directing her passion to improve the nutrition children receive at home by providing parents with practical information that makes it easier for them to feed healthy foods to their children.
